SafePlug SE electrical receptacles provide precise load control for Demand Response (DR) and for the most practical Home Area Network (HAN) architectures. SafePlug SE outlets add communication, energy monitoring and remote on-off control to the award-winning SafePlug safety designs (
http://www.safeplug.com/).
SafePlug SE receptacles use SafePlug data tags on electrical plugs to add unique identification of each portable electrical device. If a tagged appliance, lamp, extension cord, tool, or electronic device gets moved to a different SafePlug SE outlet, the Smart Meter or a gateway can still locate the appliance for precise energy monitoring, Demand Response events or simple on-off control. Thesse wireless tags comply with both ISO 14443B standard and the RightPlug Alliance standard (
www.RightPlug.org).
SafePlug SE outlets extend Demand Response (DR) to 15A, 120 VAC electrical loads. SafePlug SE outlets use ZigBee SE communications to receive DR events and to confirm participation in each event.
SafePlug SE devices handle full circuit current without restriction. SafePlug 15A receptacles use a NEMA 5-15 plug configuration and control full 15A loads. SafePlug outlets detect excess current, appliance overloads and bad branch circuit wire junctions and trip like a circuit breaker to prevent electrical fires.
SafePlug SE receptacles can also empower customers to automatically reduce their load profile when the utility company communicates an elevated price of electricity. A SafePlug SE outlet can turn off specific appliances at pre-set price levels. For example, at price X, the customer may choose to automatically turn off the pool pump. At price 2X, the customer may choose to automatically turn off window air conditioners and the water heater during particular times of the day. At price 3X, the customer may choose to automatically shut off entertainment systems and certain lights.
For energy monitoring, SafePlug SE receptacles can measure the energy consumption of each appliance and report it. If an appliance gets unplugged and plugged into a different SafePlug SE receptacle, the energy reporting remains accurate and follows the appliance from outlet to outlet...automatically.
