SafePlug Model 1202 Smart Energy duplex-receptacle outlet extends Demand Response to any 125V, 15A appliance or load device. The SafePlug 1202 outlet can control each of its two receptacles independently. Unlike competitive products, the SafePlug 1202 outlet does not restrict either the number of available receptacles nor the full load capacity of the branch circuit outlet.
SafePlug tags for appliance cord plugs create a unique address for each appliance to allow existing and low cost appliance to join the Smart Grid. With SafePlug appliance tags and SafePlug outlets, a Smart Meter can track the location of any appliance, whether it is turned on at the start of a Demand Response event, and if it participated in a Demand Response event.
The SafePlug 1202 Smart Energy outlet also independently monitors the energy consumption through each of its two receptacles. Measured power consumption is transmitted through its Zigbee radio to a Zigbee network coordinator (associated Smart Meter or network gateway). If a SafePlug address tag is affixed to the appliance cord plug, then the SafePlug 1202 also writes cumulative energy consumption onto the tag. The tag data acts as backup storage and also ensures that lifetime energy consumption of the appliance gets logged and stays with the appliance for accuracy. The stored value can be read by any SafePlug outlet
The SafePlug 1202 outlet uses patented technology to protect appliances and electronics from damage and to help manage grid loads in post-black-out start up. For appliance protection and fire prevention, the SafePlug 1202 shuts off electricity to appliances when it detects abnormal utilization voltage. For extended protection, SafePlug 1202 operates continuously to protect, even if a fault causes its line voltage to rise to 250 VAC. The SafePlug 1202 also snubs surges and meets the strict UL 1449 standard for Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors.
When power returns to the SafePlug 1202 after a black out, the SafePlug delays turning on power to the appliances for 15 yo 30 seconds to protect the appliances from grid surges and to reduce peak grid start-up current after a black-out. During this period, the SafePlug 1202 flashes a yellow LED to indicate pending power up. Once good power has been present for 15 to 30 seconds, the SafePlug power light turns solid yellow. to indicates that the SafePlug 1202 is powered ON. Next, the SafePlug 1202 turns on its receptacles one at a time, 2 seconds apart, to reduce the branch circuit start up current.
The SafePlug 1202 outlet contains patented Electricala Fault Circuit Interrupter (EFCI) technology to help prevent fires from overloaded appliances, bad wire junctions, open neutral conditions, and arcing. SafePlug wireless tags for appliance cord plugs uniquely identify each appliance and also store safety information about the appliance. If the SafePlug 1202 detects a pending-fire fault, it disconnects electricity at that receptacle and flags the condition with a flashing red LED indicator.
The SafePlug 1202 default setting keeps electricity normally OFF at the receptacle sockets. Children cannot get a shock at empty SafePlug sockets since electricity is not present unless a tagged plug is inserted in the socket. For extra safety, a green LED indicator adjacent to the receptacle indicates if the socket is turned ON.
For quick low-cost installation, the SafePlug Model 1202 outlet simply plugs in directly over an existing receptacle. To avoid accidental removal, it comes with long screws to firmly attach it to the wall box. Most customers find the installation simple and the product attractive in appearance.
